Lisa Donovan’s work uses sound, text, electronics, lasers, machinery, and a number of other media to encourage a discourse between the object and the viewer about the nature of technology. What is it? Can we communicate with it? At the moment we look at modern technologies very much as we look at the ‘other’. We use it as a reference for self understanding and self development. We play around with it: use it as a way of redefining ourselves. But one day we will become ‘it’ and for the binding of brain and binary, flesh and material, to truly merge, to successfully become post-human, post-machine, we need to negotiate our needs and understand our limitations. For Lisa,  Art is the only medium that allows this process of discovery.
